Cat Scratchers and Scratching Posts
by
KittyKondo.com
The cat scratching post is the most basic and quintessential cat
accessory. Many owners might find that if they don't buy a cat
scratching post their cats will make their own cat posts of
the human furniture lying around the house. Scratching is part of a cat's natural behavior
and they will always be looking for a place to exercise that
instinct.
A scratching post can be a simple log or tree bark from a garden
or a cat post wound with sisal rope. Cat Scratching posts can
also be embedded with catnip. Its best to try and avoid carpet
covered cat scratchers and furniture, which may look and smell
like your own carpet and harbor fleas.
Scratching Posts should also be long enough in height to give
your cat a good stretch. Try to give your cat a scratching post
at least 20" in height. The post should have a stable base so
that it won't topple over as your kitten grows.
